Why Look Up!?

That's a tricky question to answer as every project is different but as a rough guide, a small static site might take roughly 0.5 - 3 days to design and build. A larger content-managed site might take between 4+ 15 days to build. My day rate is £350 per day.

Though I've done plenty of it in the past, I don't specialise in branding and logo design.

If you want something simple and quick, I can help you with that. But for a full brand identity, I'd recommend working with a dedicated branding expert.

I do... However, they aren't an area of focus for me. They are an example of where it’s often beneficial to use templates like Shopify or Squarespace, and that's not typically my speciality.

Yes, I use AI to help me with my work. And honestly, I'd be mad not to. It's a fantastic tool for writing code. It means I can get things done much faster than I could before, and these are savings that I pass on to my clients.

However, the code that AI generates is not always perfect. Thankfully, I had been coding for many years before AI coding was a thing. So, unlike many new "vibe coders" out there, I understand all the code that AI generates. I know how it works, the things to look out for and when to correct or steer so it's not doing anything silly or unnecessary.

Maybe... Site-builders like Squarespace, Wix & Webflow can be great for getting something published quickly & easily & their templates are often nicely designed.

Sometimes that's all you need and I'm always honest with clients if I feel that is the best option for them.

However, there are lots of reasons why a bespoke solution can be more beneficial:

• Total flexibility in design (templates can be quite samey).
• Site load speeds & navigation are normally faster (giving better user experience and SEO performance)
• Site builders can be frustrating to learn if you are “DIYing” your site. Unless you know what you're doing it can be a false economy in terms of your time spent working on it.
• Simple brochure sites that don't get updated much built by me often work out cheaper in the long run, as my monthly charges for those are cheaper than those offered by site builders.

These days, most of my sites are built with React (though historically most of my sites were built with WordPress).

I generally use NextJS for more complex sites or Astro for static sites. Motion handles my animations. I typically use Wordpress or Pocketbase as a CMS and I use Supabase for more complicated database applications. I use Stripe to handle online payments.
